The Brooklyn Made Store – Supporting Local Talent

It’s always lovely to see people supporting each other in their creativity and dreams; it’s even more lovely to see institutions doing so to try to offer a spotlight to hard working individuals.

If you haven’t yet heard of The Brooklyn Made Store, created by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and supported by Wells Fargo and Brooklyn Org, it’s certainly time that you did. This store (both the brick and mortar store and the website) celebrates the diverse spirit of Brooklyn through locally made products and brands. Reflecting over 300 years of cultural evolution, “Brooklyn Made” embodies the borough’s unique identity shaped by its vibrant communities. The store’s mission is to spotlight designers, makers, and entrepreneurs—especially from communities of color—whose creations capture Brooklyn’s essence. Located in Industry City, the store is a testament to Brooklyn’s innovation and inclusivity, offering products that tell the story of the borough’s past, present, and future.

The Brooklyn Made Store hosted “A Very Brooklyn Fashion Show” on October 15 at Industry City’s brooklynONE Productions as part of Fashion Week Brooklyn. This event celebrated the creativity of Brooklyn-based designers, both new and established, highlighting talent such as Monique Glover (Zyem NYC), Yvonne Chu (Kimera), and Adeleke Sijuwade (L Collection), among others. Divided into three segments curated by prominent fashion leaders—including Catherine Schuller of Runway the Real Way and Ricky Davy of BK Style Foundation—the show spotlighted diverse perspectives in fashion. Davy praised the event’s inclusivity, emphasizing its importance for local brands to gain visibility beyond flea markets. New York City’s Cultural Affairs Commissioner Laurie Cumbo praised Brooklyn’s influence on global culture and celebrated its role as a launchpad for creatives. Randy Peers, president of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in amplifying Brooklyn’s unique design talent.
