Oprah Turns Hasidic
Oprah promised that she would continue covering interesting stories, and she seems to be sticking to her word with her “Oprah’s Next Chapter” series on the Oprah Winfrey Network. Sunday and Monday this week will feature Oprah’s look inside the home of religious Jews, as she hung out in Borough Park and Crown Heights learning about their culture. During an interview with Rabbi Motti Seligson that aired on Chabad.org, Oprah explained that,
“This religion is so family oriented. The core of the belief system is about bringing families together.”
Oprah’s Next Chapter
During the show, viewers will watch Oprah eating with the Ginsberg family in their Borough Park home. In addition, she checks out the mikvah, or ritual bath, in Brooklyn Heights and talks with four Hasidic women.
Oprah found from her visit that, “We are more alike than we are different. The moment I walked into the Ginsberg’s home. I felt welcomed. I felt a sense of warmth. A sense of family, comfort, and value.”
Berating America’s Kids
Oprah took the opportunity to scold America’s kids in comparison with what the Ginsberg kids showed her. She said that American kids spend too much time on their smart phones and tablets, and she highlighted how refreshing it was to see Brooklyn’s Jews dedicating themselves to family time, rather than to technology.
Tune in Sunday night for more details!
