Ok, maybe Nemo is not the official name of this mega snow storm; it still has a nice ring to it. We can thank The Weather Channel for this cute name, originally the great submarine captain of Jules Vernes 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, later morphing into a little Disney character fish that gets lost in the movie Finding Nemo.

Never mind all that, what about our crazy blizzard which is the two in the one-two punch of this year’s nasty weather. (Sandy of course being the one.) According to Wunderground.com, this storm is “certainly among the top five to affect Southern New England and Maine and for some localities, the worst winter storm on record (going back 300 years since European inhabitants began keeping track of such thing.)

Well, we’ve made history again.

Although not as bad as the great blizzard of 1888, Nemo is still up there with the best of them. In Hamden, Connecticut 40 inches of snowfall was reported from Nemo. In 1888 there was an incredible 50 inches in Middleton! Never mind, 40 inches is quite respectable. Here’s a statistic that would be hard to beat: There is a report that an amazing 12 inches of snow fell in only 90 minutes in Coventry Connecticut on Friday night, at the peak of Nemo’s intensity.
