Brooklyn Bakers on New Food Network Show

A new show on Food Network, Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking, brings the famed wizarding world to life through the art of baking, and two contestants from New York City are stepping into the spotlight. Brooklyn-based baker Zoe Burmester and Miko Uy from Queens join this unique competition, where they’ll create Harry Potter-inspired desserts alongside top bakers from across the U.S.

Shot on location at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, England, the show uses iconic Harry Potter sets as backdrops for each baking challenge, such as the Great Hall and Platform 9¾. With hosts James and Oliver Phelps, who played Fred and George Weasley in the film series, and a panel of judges including Carla Hall and chef Jozef Youssef, Wizards of Baking pushes competitors to craft creations that capture the magic of the Harry Potter universe.

Burmester, originally from the UK and now a Brooklyn resident, felt the weight of recreating something so deeply connected to fans worldwide. “Harry Potter is iconic,” she explains, adding that she wanted to honor the world and characters while also expressing her unique culinary style. Uy, a resident of Astoria, Queens, echoed these sentiments, sharing that he grew up a fan of the series and was thrilled to bring his craft to a setting he’d admired for years. Uy also noted the impact of his Slytherin House identity on his baking style, aiming to show fans that Slytherins, often portrayed as devious, can bring creativity and warmth to the table.

While competing, both New York bakers brought distinct flavors inspired by their roots. As they worked through each challenge, they aimed to craft desserts that spoke not only to Harry Potter fans but also to the diversity of their hometown.

Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking airs on Food Network and is also available for streaming on Max, allowing New Yorkers and fans across the country to watch Burmester and Uy represent their city on this fantastical culinary journey.
