Susan Boyle Wows New Yorkers in a Performance of Three Songs

Susan Boyle put on a mini-concert on the Today Show in Rockefeller Plaza in New York City yesterday morning. The 48-year-old singer was backed by a choir of children while she sang Holy Night and Perfect Day. She was joined by Amber Stassi, the winner of Susan’s Search, and they sang Do You Hear What I Hear?

Susan’s Search was a competition that Boyle launched, with the prize being the opportunity to sing a duet with her on her new album The Gift. When asked why she chose Amber, she said that Amber has a “lovely, very beautiful voice.” Amber is a mother of three from Brewerton, New York.

Boyle appeared to be in great spirits during her performance, enthusiastic and joking with the crowd and waving her cheerful red scarf in the air.   She had a bumpy start with her new career as a celebrity, with tears and smiles equally common over the past year. She has never been married, and lives with her cat, Pebbles, in a small town in Scotland. The pressure of her instant fame following her appearance on Britain’s Got Talent 2009 was incredibly hard to handle, and after a few public breakdowns Boyle was forced to take it easy and rest while staying low on the radar. But, apparently she’s back, full of holiday spirits and new beginnings. Sales of her album The Gift are estimated to reach $325,000 just for the past two weeks, with the total sales at $650,000 so far. The crowd yesterday was enormous, and the performance was met with great enthusiasm, with people waiting for hours just to get a glimpse of Boyle.
